With White Colour, for Viola and Piano

With White Colour - This title deals with the piano keyboard: All black keys are recessed in this cycle! This method of limiting available material means challenges for the composer: Again and again he has to explore which possibilities remain while so many things you are used to cannot be used. No modulations and chromatical progressions are possible here. How long can musical thoughts be when I limit myself in white keys only? Prokofieff had tried to do so intermittently; he even wanted to write a white string quartet and gave it up after a time. These three pieces are only a small part of my «white» compositions.
«White Melody» is a lyric piece full of love, the idea of pureness and wellness. The viola with its warm sound is the ideal instrumental cast for this melody.
«Triquot Colour: White» tells from playing soccer, meaning many exciting situations that change in breathtaking speed. Often the German national soccer team played in white triquots.
«Jogging Philosophy»: this short succinctly sporty-springy melody is varied over and over and developed and counterpointed in the duo partners' interactions. All that only with white keys!
In «White» Romance the solo instrument sings its way through all facets of love, from introverted silence and extroverted passion, and is supported and complemented by the piano, which in this case represents an orchestra.
