The three sonatinas for viola and piano were written in late autumn and winter of 2016. They follow the classical three-movement pattern. The third sonatina opens with a rhythmical movement, the main theme of which is accompanied by an ostinato of parallel sixths. A second contrasting theme follows, while a slightly varied reprise concludes the movement. The second movement is lyrical and melodic. The final movement is a robust fugue, at the end of which the main theme of the first movement reappears.
